MOSCOW. On Saturday, the Russian destroyer Marshal Shaposhnikov drove the American submarine, which came close to the Kuril Islands, where the Russian Pacific Fleet’s military exercises are underway, from the territorial waters of the Russian Federation.

TASR reported on the basis of reports provided by the AFP and TASS news agencies.

The US Virginia-class attack submarine withdrew after a Russian destroyer used “reasonable means” for the purpose, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The incident occurred at a time of tense situation between Moscow and the West in connection with the possible invasion of Ukraine by Ukraine.

The Udaloj-class Russian anti-submarine destroyer registered a US nuclear submarine in Russian territorial waters off the Kuril Islands on Saturday morning in local time.

The Russian Ministry of Defense summoned a US military attaché in connection with this incident. The submarine belongs to the United States Navy (US NAVY).

The American submarine launched a self-propelled simulator to divide the enemy’s radar and acoustic control means into two parts and to withdraw from the Russian territorial waters at maximum speed, the Russian Ministry of Defense specified.

The vessels of the Russian Pacific Fleet are continuing the planned exercises, including tasks related to ensuring control in the underwater environment and obstruction of state border violations.
