Italian skier Sofia Goggio was satisfied after Saturday’s first downhill training at the Winter Olympics. The start of the 2018 gold champion from Pyongyang has long been uncertain. She arrived in Beijing despite a persistent knee injury she suffered in the January Super-G World Cup on home snow in Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Goggio set the twelfth best time with a deficit of 1.55 seconds for the fastest Priska Nufer from Switzerland. “I’m glad I wasn’t afraid at the start. The winner of four SP season sessions this season is at the forefront of the discipline’s assessment despite not attending the pre-Olympic event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

The training ride was also important for the American Mikael Shiffrin. The big medal adept is not doing well on the Chinese slopes – she did not finish the slalom or giant slalom races in the first round and took ninth place in the super-G.
