Russia launches large – scale military exercise in the Black Sea – SME.sk

MOSCOW. The Russian Navy launched a large-scale exercise in the Black Sea on Saturday. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, it is attended by more than 30 vessels that sailed from Sevastopol and Novorossiysk. The AFP agency informed about it.

“The aim of the exercise is to defend the coast of the Crimean peninsula, the basic Black Sea Fleet, as well as the country’s economic sector … from a possible military threat,” the ministry added.

These maneuvers take place at a time of relationship crisis Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The United States, as well as other members ONTO and Western countries accuse Russia of amassing troops near the Ukrainian border and planning to attack it, including from Belarus.

In January, Moscow announced a series of naval exercises in the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean.

The exercise should involve more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 pieces of military equipment and a total of more than 10,000 soldiers.

At the same time, a ten-day military exercise began in Belarus on Thursday with the participation of Belarusian and Russian forces.
