LONDON. British citizens who choose to stay in Ukraine should not expect a military evacuation in the event of a conflict with Russia.

This was stated by Deputy British Secretary of Defense James Heappey in an interview with Sky News on Saturday.

“British citizens should leave Ukraine immediately by any means of transport and should not expect a military evacuation, as witnessed in the summer in Afghanistan,” Heappey said.

The British Foreign Office advised the British on Friday not to travel to Ukraine. At the same time, he called on British citizens already in Ukraine to leave as soon as possible while they had access to ordinary commercial transport.

According to Reuters, Heappey said that any decision on Britain’s diplomatic presence in Ukraine had not yet been made.
