BRATISLAVA. The presidential office objected to the video that the deputy was distributing on social networks Ľuboš Blaha (Direction).

The palace speaks of a manipulative and purposefully edited video. In it, the deputy tries to contradict the current position of the president Zuzana Čaputová to the Defense Cooperation Agreement with the United States with its statements in the election debate.

TASR was informed about this by the director of the communication department of the President’s Office, Jozef Matej.

Targeted attack

“The president said she would not sign a treaty that would jeopardize Slovakia’s sovereignty, establish foreign troops and build a base without parliament’s consent. The text of this treaty, as well as the interpretation clause the treaty does not change the current legal situation on these issues, “the president’s office declared.

Therefore, Čaputová’s words do not contradict the statements made during the campaign. “This is just another targeted attack through lies,” Matej added.

They signed the agreement

The Slovak Republic and the United States signed a defense cooperation agreement in Washington, DC, this week. The signatory for Slovakia was the Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď (OĽANO), for the US Chief of Diplomacy Antony Blinken.

The Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs was also present at the signing Ivan Korčok (SaS nominee). The agreement has yet to be approved by the National Council. Ratification by the President is also needed.

The agreement should allow the US Armed Forces to use the Malacky-Kuchyna and Sliač military airports, or other agreed facilities and premises. Slovakia is to provide them without rent.

The agreement should be valid for ten years. It then remains valid or can be terminated with one year’s notice.

Government officials have declared that the treaty does not jeopardize Slovakia’s sovereignty and sovereignty.

The opposition criticizes it and talks about creating US military bases in Slovakia, bringing US troops closer to the Russian border and curtailing the competencies of our state authorities. The President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová, supported the conclusion of the agreement.
