Weather alert: Northerly gale on Sunday and southeasterly on Monday – The Weather Channel

Situation

A cold front linked to a virulent depression which is sweeping northern Europe crosses France between Sunday and Monday in a flow moving towards the northwest sector. The associated disturbance brings sustained rains north of the Seine and snow above 800 meters from the Vosges to the north of the Alps. This cold air from the north of France on Sunday plunges into the Mediterranean on Monday through the Rhone corridor, which causes a new gale near the Mediterranean, less violent than that of last Monday.

Observation

Saturday night, The disturbance responsible for Sunday’s gale is rapidly strengthening over northern Scotland and beginning to plunge towards central England and the North Sea. The accompanying Jet Stream reaches 300 km/h over the Highlands. The disturbance crosses the north of France. It causes a gale north of the Loire, with gusts up to 80 km / h. But it is near the Channel, and especially on the Cotentin, Calvados and the departments and regions north of the Seine (from Seine-Maritime to Hauts-de-France to the Grand-Est) that the wind blows the strongest, up to 100 km / h around Cherbourg, the country of Caux, the Opal Coast, the hills of Artois and the Vosges with possibly gusts 10 to 20% higher. At the end of the evening, after the passage of the cold front, the wind will weaken over the north of France.
By the sea, the risk of submersion at high tide remains generally limited due to lower tide coefficients (84 / 77) compared to Friday and Saturday.

Monday
During the night of Sunday to Monday, the disturbance plunges towards the south of France. Thus, on Monday, from the start of the morning, the winds suddenly increased around the Gulf of Lion and in the Rhone corridor. Very quickly, gusts reached and exceeded 100 km/h, then 100 to 110 km/h in exposed areas: the lower Rhône valley (Istres sector and even as far as Toulon) as well as the plain of Aude and the north of the Pyrénées-Orientales (Massif des Corbières and La Clape near Narbonne).
The maximum intensity of the episode is expected Monday at the end of the day. The zone of turbulent winds will slip to Corsica. Gusts can reach 120 to 140 km / h in the traditionally exposed areas of northern Corsica (Balagne, Cap Corse) as well as between Solenzara and Bonifacio and in the mountains.
