(CNN) – A passenger was injured Friday after jumping from a United Express flight that was moving slowly from the gates at Los Angeles International Airport, a LAX police spokesman told CNN.
At approximately 7:10 p.m. local time, the man opened the aircraft door, activated the emergency slide, and stepped onto the taxiway, the spokesman said. Los Angeles Airport Police and the Los Angeles Fire Department responded immediately.
The flight, operated by SkyWest Airlines, was heading to Salt Lake City, an FAA spokesman said.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), an altercation occurred aboard the Embraer 175 aircraft shortly before the passenger attempted to exit the plane.
No other passengers were injured, authorities said.
The man who exited the aircraft was detained by authorities and taken to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
Authorities are investigating the incident and working to determine the passenger’s motive.
