Delta variant, Merkel: “We are not at the end of the pandemic”

“In light of the Delta variant, unfortunately we cannot say that we are headed towards the end of the pandemic.” This was stated by the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, following the EU summit in Brussels. Despite the acceleration in the vaccination campaign in many Western countries and the consequent decline in contagion rates, it is still too early for the European Union to let down its guard against Covid-19, the German Chancellor stressed. Merkel pointed out that even in the countries ahead of the vaccination campaign there is a peak of infections. “For this reason I can only appeal to caution,” he added, reiterating the appeal to make small gestures such as wearing masks indoors.
