The idea of ​​a summit between the European Union (EU) and Russia, proposed by Berlin and Paris, was swept aside. European leaders ruled out, Friday, June 25, the possibility of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin because the conditions are not met, announced several leaders at the end of a European summit in Brussels. It would have been the first since the annexation, in 2014, of Crimea by Russia.

“It was not possible to agree today that we should meet immediately at the top”, announced Chancellor Angela Merkel, who wanted such a meeting.

“It is too early because so far we do not see a radical change in the behavior of Vladimir Putin”, explained the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda.
