Petra Vlhová was in a good mood before the upcoming Olympics with a silver medal in the giant slalom in Kronplatz, Italy.
For the Slovak skier, it was the first stage success on the challenging Erta piste in Obrák and the third overall this season. However, the holder of the small globe behind the slalom and the defender of the big one, despite her joy, could hardly hide a minor disappointment in the goal.
“I finally managed to finish on stage here as well, we are very happy. Well, I’m also a little sad. I’m angry with myself, I wanted to win. On the other hand, we have trained a lot and now I feel very good in the giant slalom, so we are looking forward to the second place as well, ” stated after the race for the Slovak Skiing Association.
In the first lap, Vlhová showed the fastest ride, in the second round Sara Hectorová was able to overtake her by 15 hundred seconds. The loss was marked by demanding conditions on the track, which the Slovak Republic was the last to go to. “The first round was completely different, the lighting conditions changed. We had more sun, the second round was already more in the shade. We didn’t see much, plus the track was a little more broken. It was a big fight. “
The last World Cup race before the Olympics missed some ski slopes so that they could concentrate and prepare for the race in Beijing. Vlhová prefers to gain experience and security in competition. “Every competitor is different. I am not one of those who prefer to relax. I get the point, I can get points in it. ”
He won’t breathe even after Tuesday’s success. He has a busy schedule before leaving for the Olympics, where he only has a few days left. He wants to drill his strongest disciplines. “Today we will move to another center in Italy, we will train slalom and giant. We are leaving for the Olympics on January 30. “
Vlhová is one of the favorites for precious metals, which are so far one of the last significant successes that the elite skiers in the collection are missing. The obtained podium on one of the most difficult slopes of the World Cup in a somewhat less successful discipline compared to slalom is an ideal time timed for Vlh in the upcoming battle for medals. “I generally feel very well. I’m strong, I believe. We will go to the Olympic Games with good feelings, ” concluded.
