MELBOURNE – Australian Immigration Minister Alex Hawke said it was prudent for his country to expel Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic. According to the judges who decided, Djokovic’s anti-vaccination views are a threat to the Australian public.

The country’s federal court reversed a verdict ruling on Djokovic’s deportation on Thursday. The Serb failed in federal court in Melbourne on Sunday to appeal against the revocation of his visa, previously ordered by Australian immigration minister Alex Hawke on Friday. The leader of the world rankings was deported from the country.

The nine-time Australian Open champion lost his visa for the first time on January 6, shortly after arriving in Melbourne, when border authorities found that he did not meet the conditions for entry. Djokovic then spent several days in an immigrant facility, but last Monday he succeeded in appealing to the first instance court and began training. However, Minister Hawke used his special powers on Friday to revoke the tennis player’s visa.

“The minister could draw conclusions from the fact that Mr. Djokovic could not be vaccinated because he was against vaccination or did not want to be vaccinated,” the judges declared.

Djokovic’s legal team argued that there was no evidence for such a view, but the judges said: “The iconic world tennis star can influence people of all ages, young and old, but especially young, and influence them to emulate his actions.”
