McAfee antivirus creator found dead in Spanish prison

Eccentric tech entrepreneur John McAfee was found dead on Wednesday 23 June in a Barcelona prison cell, the Catalan Justice Department said, confirming local press reports. The announcement comes hours after Spain’s High Court authorized his extradition to the United States.

Everything suggests at the moment that it is a suicide, the department said in a statement. John McAfee, 75, was charged with tax evasion in the United States.

McAfee, the founder of an antivirus software company, was arrested in October last year and awaiting extradition when he was found dead, law enforcement sources told El Pais newspaper.
