The biographical drama Zátopek by director, co-producer and co-writer David Ondříček and the debut of director Michal Nohejl Occupation, a tragicomic drama from the period of normalization, have also received 13 nominations from academics. Martin Šulík’s other film A Man with Rabbit Ears, a fantasy comedy about a writer whose life was turned upside down, received 11 nominations, nine nominations for the Bird Atlas, a probe into complicated family relationships and the world of communication technologies, directed by Olmo Omerzu.
The romantic drama of director Jan Prušinovský The Error, which talks about dealing with one’s own past, received eight nominations. With five nominations, the television series by director Lenka Wimmerová Božena about the first great Czech writer Božena Němcová enters the final battle. Michaela Pavlátová’s internationally acclaimed animated film My Sun Mad won four nominations, which poetically tells the story of a Czech married to Kabul. The nominated films Atlas of Birds, Bugs, Man with Rabbit Ears, Occupation and Zátopek are nominated in the Best Film category.
Nominated for Best Documentary
The category Documentary Intensive Life, Love Under the Hood, with which the Slovak director Miro Remo is bidding for the Czech Lion, and the films Heaven, New Shift, Dreams of Wandering Cats, were nominated in the Best Documentary category.
The actresses nominated for the best female performance in the lead role are Alena Mihulová, Anna Kameníková, Pavla Gajdošíková, Eliška Křenková and Martha Issová. Miroslav Donutil, Jan Jankovský, Miroslav Krobot, Martin Pechlát and Václav Neužil can win the prize for the best male performance in the lead role.
Olmo Omerza for Atlas of Birds, Jan Prušinovský for the film Bugs, Martin Šulík for Man with Rabbit Ears, debutant Michal Nohejl for Occupation and David Ondříček for the film Zátopek found themselves in the fight for the award for the best director. The Czech Lion awards ceremony will take place live on ČT1 on March 5 from 8.10 pm in Prague’s Rudolfinum. The moderator of the evening will be Jiří Havelka for the first time.
