The situation with omikron is more or less stable in Slovakia. However, border districts are beginning to be a problem, especially with Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary, where the incidence of test positivity is rising sharply. Especially in the districts of Stropkov, Námestovo, Tvrdošín or Prešov, where we can see a several-fold increase since the Three Kings, when we experienced a minimum in the delta wave.

As data analysts from Data without Pathos pointed out, Stropkov in the east of the country is a smaller district with a population of 21,000. Another city that is burning with a wave of omicrons is Prešov – it is a regional city with almost 200,000 inhabitants. It also has many new cases in the past two weeks – up to a thousand in particular. This is almost double that of the Three Kings, with analysts calling it a significant increase, however, PCR tests show a positivity of only about 20 percent.
