CURRENT: Storms are operating in Slovakia. The first storms hit this year – iMeteo.sk

The mighty storm line, which had been in operation since the morning hours in Poland, was gradually moving further south until it reached our northern borders. We have recorded the first storms of this year in Slovakia, and only in mid-January.

A significant storm line arose on the advancing cold front in Poland and before 3 p.m. has also arrived in our territory. However, the storms occurring in Slovakia are weaker than those that occurred in advance in Poland.

In Slovakia, we recorded the first lightning storms this year. So far (at 3.00 pm) 72 lightning strikes have hit our territory.

Storms have already been recorded by our Czech neighbors, where storms occurred in the north of the country before 2 p.m. More than 200 lightning strikes have already hit the territory of the Czech Republic.

However, storms are accompanied by very strong winds. The speed of the wind in the gust was 52.7 m / s, ie 190 km / h, measured in Sněžka this afternoon.

With the arrival of the queue, the weather will get worse

Storms in our territory are also accompanied by strong winds, which in the High and Low Tatras can reach hurricane strength at speeds of up to 180 km / h. It blows most in the afternoon, with the wind stopping in the evening.

Along with the wind and storms, it will snow heavily in the north and the combination of snow and lightning will create real winter storms. When the front arrives, the snowfall will be even more intense, as will the force of the wind.

The weather will be dangerous in Slovakia and there is a risk that branches and whole trees will be broken, or electricity supplies will be interrupted.

People are advised not to stay around the trees and, best of all, to stay safe in their homes.
