The conclusion of a defense agreement with the USA is a responsible step towards strengthening the European security policy, but also the defense capability of the Slovak Republic. This was stated by Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽANO) after Monday’s meeting with the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová and the Speaker of the Parliament Boris Kollár (We are a family). He added that he had come to the negotiations with the clear aim of openly supporting the signing of the agreement.

“23 countries have already signed this agreement. “All countries on the eastern border have signed it, including Hungary and Poland, so I think it is the right step to strengthen our defenses,” the prime minister pointed out.

In support of the defense agreement with the USA, it is essential for the We Are the Family movement that the parliament continues to decide on the presence of foreign soldiers and nuclear weapons in the territory of the Slovak Republic. The deputies’ questions are to be answered at the club’s meeting by the Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď (OĽANO) and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Korčok (SaS nominee).

“Even if this treaty is signed, any soldier who would come to Slovakia must be ratified in parliament. If it is written in this way in that contract, then we have no problem, “said the head of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Kollár. It also calls for it to be clearly stated that any nuclear weapon can be transferred to Slovakia only with the consent of the National Council of the Slovak Republic.

“If we have these answers and we are sure, we will be united. If it is somewhat vague, the opposite may happen, “said Kollár. He also admitted that three or four Members could abstain.

Top constitutional officials also spoke on Monday about the pandemic and social measures to support those most affected by the pandemic. The president is also to discuss her proposals with the Minister of Labor, Milan Krajniak (We are a family).

On Wednesday (January 12), the Government of the Slovak Republic approved the conclusion of an agreement on cooperation in the field of defense with the USA (DCA). After signing the document, it must still be approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic. Ratification by the President is also needed. The agreement should allow the US Armed Forces to use the Malacky-Kuchyna and Sliač military airports, or other agreed facilities and premises. Government officials said the agreement did not threaten the sovereignty and sovereignty of the Slovak Republic.
