Kužmová did not lose a hundred in the qualification in three matches and she also started well against the Chinese free card holder. In the second game, she broke the opponent’s serve and, after confirming the break, took the lead 3: 0. However, Si-yu Wang shook quickly, tied at 3: 3 and, thanks to a break in the eleventh game, finally won the first set in his favor.
In the second act, the Chinese woman played four games in a row from 2: 3 and secured the promotion to the 2nd round, where the Czech Barbora Krejčíková is waiting for her on Wednesday. Last year’s champion Roland Garros outclassed German Andrea Petkovičová 6: 2, 6: 0 at the beginning.
Schmiedlová also ends
Slovak tennis player Anna Karolína Schmiedlová as well as her compatriot Viktória Kužmová did not succeed in the first round of singles at the Australian Open grand slam tournament. Schmiedlova’s start to the match with Ostapenkova came out and after a quick break she built up a 3-0 lead. In the next few minutes, the Latvian mobilized and turned to 5: 3, but the Slovak then equalized to 5: 5 and forced a secretary. Ostapenková led 5: 1 and 6: 3 in it, but Schmiedlová showed a great turnaround. She averted three set-balls and finally won the trophy to her advantage.
In the second act, the best Slovak singles matched from 1: 4 to 4: 4, but the ending belonged to Ostapenková. Latvian was more aggressive at crucial moments, playing more winning strokes. In the third set, thanks to the break in the fourth game, Schmiedlova bounced 4: 1 and the first mutual match was already reached by the champion Roland Garros from 2017 to a successful end.
