BRATISLAVA. In the mountains of some northern districts of Slovakia it can be really windy on Monday. This is pointed out by the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, which issued third-degree warnings.
However, stronger winds should be expected in most areas for which first and second degree warnings apply. It will also snow in the north, and you will also need to watch out for snow tongues and snowdrifts. SHMÚ informs about it on its website.
The extremely strong wind should be especially careful in the mountains in the districts of Tvrdošín, Ružomberok, Liptovský Mikuláš, Poprad, Banska Bystrica and Brezno.
According to meteorologists, in positions above 1,800 meters, it can reach speeds of 110 to 120 kilometers per hour on average, and 160 to 180 kilometers per hour in bursts.
Second-degree wind warnings in the mountains were preliminarily issued for the districts of Námestovo, Žilina, Dolný Kubín and Martin.
Above the forest zone, the wind can reach an average speed of 90 to 100 kilometers per hour, in gusts of 135 to 160 kilometers per hour. Wind warnings in the first degree mountains apply preliminarily to the Bratislava, Trnava, Trenčín and Košice regions.
However, stronger winds can be expected outside the mountains, almost throughout Slovakia, with the exception of some areas of the far east. Second-level warnings have been issued for western Slovakia, and first-level warnings have been issued for central and large parts of eastern Slovakia.
In some northern districts, it may snow on Monday, and ten to 15 centimeters of new snow may fall. It is necessary to pay attention to snow tongues and snowdrifts in central and eastern Slovakia, preliminary warnings of the first and second degree have been issued.
