The beginning of the new week in Slovakia will be marked by bad weather. A significant cold front will arrive over our territory, which will be accompanied by a strong wind. It will also bring snow, rain in the lower positions.
After relatively calm weather, which in many places resembled spring rather than winter, change is finally waiting for us.
Already on Sunday evening, the wind intensifies and in some places it starts to snow. During Monday we expect a stormy wind, up to a storm in the mountains. Lower positions must also take into account the rain.
A cold front with a strong wind arrives
In the area of eastern Scandinavia, a relatively deep pressure will be created below. In addition, a low-pressure furrow will be created on its southern side, extending beyond northern Ukraine.
At the same time, there will be a massive higher pressure over the British Isles.
Cold air will enter us from the north between these pressure units. In addition, a significant pressure difference between these formations will cause the wind to intensify.
Strong wind will arrive in our territory on the night of Monday. It blows first in the mountains and in the west of Slovakia. We expect two stronger winds on Monday. The first will be caused by a pressure gradient and will persist throughout the day in western Slovakia. The second arrives from the north with a cold front and gradually passes through the whole territory.

During Monday, it will blow the strongest in the west of Slovakia, especially in the Danubian Lowland. The strongest wind should reach 80 km / h in gusts. An even stronger wind will blow in the mountains, especially on the ridges of the Tatras. Maximum impacts there can reach over 140 km / h.
It will snow heavily in the north
The front will also bring precipitation. The first will occur on the night of Monday, in the northwest and north of Slovakia. From about 600 meters it will be snowfall.
During Monday morning, there will be showers throughout the area, which will be snowy from the middle positions. At noon, a cold front arrives from the north, bringing precipitation gradually throughout the territory.
While it is snowing from the middle positions, mixed precipitation or liquid precipitation is expected in the low positions. In the north, it can also attack 15 centimeters of snow in a relatively short time.
Heavy snowfall and strong winds can cause significant road problems, especially in the northern half of Slovakia. Therefore, be careful and, if possible, do not travel on Monday afternoon.
