The former Malian head of state, overthrown in 2020 by the military, died on Sunday at his home, his family said. Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta led Mali from 2013 to 2020.
Former Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, who led Mali between 2013 and 2020, died on Sunday January 16 at his home in Bamako, AFP learned from his family.
“President IBK (Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta) died this morning at 9 a.m. (GMT and local) at his home in Bamako,” a member of his family told AFP. This information was confirmed by several family members. Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, elected president of Mali in September 2013, was overthrown by soldiers in August 2020.
