On Friday night, Ukraine faced a huge cyber attack on government websites. A spokesman for the diplomacy department does not want to blame anyone for the attack yet, but claims that similar interventions in the past came from Russia.
The hackers put threatening text on the attacked servers, in which they wrote that the visitors had leaked the data and were supposed to “be afraid and expect the worst”. However, according to the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), there was no leakage of personal data.
The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said the EU was mobilizing “all its resources” to help Ukraine. He called on the member states to cooperate and called the attack on Ukraine “Worthy of condemnation”.
He also said that they had activated the European Cyber Rapid Reaction Force. Member States’ ambassadors will meet in an urgent meeting of the EU’s Political and Security Committee in connection with the cyber attack. Josep Borrell said he did not want to “point a finger at anyone” yet, but he could imagine who was behind the attack.
