CORONAVÍRUS Reinfections in the Czech Republic are rising sharply, the state does not present them to the public – Topky.sk

“That data is public, we publish it in data files. The increase is indisputable,” Ladislav Dušek, Director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS), told the News. He added that he would include the data on reinfections, which began to increase significantly with the advent of the more contagious variant of omicron, and the search for which may be more difficult for ordinary citizens, he would include among the basic published data.

It can be seen from the graphs that a partial increase in reinfections occurred last summer, when the epidemic stagnated and the number of new confirmed cases was low. A further increase was visible in the autumn, when the delta variant still prevailed. This could be related to the weakening protection of people who have overcome COVID-19 earlier. During the autumn, the share of recorded reinfections in the total number of new infections was around two to three percent.

The turning point came soon after the confirmation of the occurrence of omicron in the Czech Republic. The reinfection rate curve started to rise sharply before the end of 2021, and during the first two weeks of this year, their rate exceeded one tenth of all confirmed cases. According to the data, Omikron is already the predominant variant of the coronavirus in the Czech Republic, and experts expect that within a few days it will completely dominate and displace the previously most widespread variant of the delta. At the Elisabeth Pharmacon laboratory in Brno, tests on Monday and Tuesday omikron variants were revealed in 85 percent of cases, said the director of the laboratory, Omar Šerý. According to Šerý, 18 percent of the samples were positive for the covid, and this share also started to grow.

In the case of omikron, experts say that this option is likely to overwhelm the entire population, regardless of previous covid or vaccination. According to experts, vaccination should prevent a severe course of the infection, which is also less common in this variant. The rapid increase, which may manifest itself in tens of thousands of people infected daily, should ease rapidly in the middle of February, writes Novinky.cz.
