Omicron: this unusual very disabling and painful symptom of the new variant

A few weeks after its appearance, the Omicron variant has already infected a large part of the population. Although the Minister of Health Olivier Véran has already given an update on this variant which is a priori more contagious but less dangerous, scientists around the world continue to discover certain effects as the positive cases multiply. The symptoms of Omicron, unlike those of other Covid-19 variants, are very similar to those of the flu or even a simple cold, hence the need to redouble vigilance and continue to apply barrier gestures. According to the American CDC (Center for Disease Control) whose remarks were repeated in the Sun, people with Covid-19 can now have “many different symptoms“.

Among these symptoms, CDC just added diarrhea to list as a possible sign of contamination the Omicron variant, in addition to being one of the possible symptoms of other variants of the coronavirus. NBC Chicago further clarified that people with weakened immune systems are more likely to have diarrhea or other bowel problems. According to studies from Johns Hopkins Medicine, around 20% of people with already weak immune systems could get diarrhea soon after catching Covid-19.

The Omicron variant has many symptoms

Note, however, that diarrhea can be a symptom of other pathologies than Covid-19 and that it is not not the most common variant symptom Omicron or the other variants. A severe fatigue, breathing problems, body aches, headaches, a sore throat or even a runny nose can be, when combined, a sign that a person has Covid-19. As Olivier Véran pointed out, vaccination remains the most effective way out of the pandemic. “You can catch Covid-19 after receiving three doses of the vaccine, but your risk of being hospitalized is at least divided by ten compared to someone unvaccinated or someone who is only partially vaccinated.”
