Boris Johnson admits having attended a party in full confinement and apologizes, the opposition asks for his resignation – archyworldys

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson presented his “Apologies” outside Parliament and admitted to making an appearance at a rally in Downing Street Gardens in full lockdown.

Mr Johnson, however, argued in the weekly government questioning session that he then believed “Implicitly” that it was a working meeting. In front of the deputies, he explained that he believed that the event respected the sanitary rules then in force, assuming the ” responsibility “ from “Errors” that were committed.

Labor opposition leader Keir Starmer called for Mr Johnson’s resignation, believing that “His defense, which consists in saying that he did not know he was at a party”, was “So ridiculous that it is in fact insulting to the British public”. “Will he now have the decency to resign?” “Mr Starmer then added, accusing the Tory leader of “To lie like a tooth puller”.

Since the end of November 2021, not a week has gone by without a revelation on the celebrations which would have taken place in 2020 at 10 Downing Street, the residence and headquarters of the British Prime Minister’s services, in violation of the health constraints in force at the time. .

On January 10, the ITV channel published the email invitation to a “BYOB party” (for bring your own bottle, “Bring your own bottle”) addressed to over 100 people by Martin Reynolds, Mr Johnson’s private secretary. The party took place on May 20, 2020 in Downing Street Gardens. According to numerous sources – anonymous – cited by the British media, up to 40 people participated in the celebrations, including Mr Johnson and his future wife Carrie (with whom he was engaged at the time).

However, at that time, the UK was confined and gatherings were limited to just two people. An hour before the “BYOB party” on May 20, the Minister of Culture, Oliver Dowden, explained at a press conference from Downing Street that the British should continue to stay at home as much as possible. In London’s parks, police dispersed those who attempted picnics, threatening them with fines of several hundred pounds if they did not comply.
