Canadian province of Quebec will introduce a health tax for the unvaccinated against CORONAVIRUS – Topky.sk

“The vaccine is the key to fighting the virus. That’s why we’re considering fees for adults who refuse vaccinations and don’t have medical reasons to do so.” Quebec Prime Minister Francois Legault said at a press conference. He added that the government in the French-speaking province plans to impose a “substantial amount of” special health tax on those who do not want to be vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine.

Legault added that 10 percent of unvaccinated adults out of more than eight million Quebec residents must not cause “damage” and financial burden to 90 percent of the vaccinated population. As he explained, they are the ones who burden hospitals, as they make up 50 percent of all patients in intensive care units. He called this situation “shocking.” There are 2742 people with covid in hospitals in Quebec and 255 of them are in the ICU.

In Quebec, which is struggling with a wave of contagion caused by the omicron variant, last December they announced a return to several anti-pandemic measures, including a curfew after 10 pm or a ban on private gatherings. In addition, several stores must remain closed on Sundays.
