MONTREAL. The Canadian province of Quebec will introduce in the coming weeks for people who refuse to be vaccinated against the new coronavirus and they have no medical reason to do so, a new mandatory tax. AFP and DPA reported on Tuesday.

“The vaccine is the key to fighting the virus. That is why we are considering fees for adults who refuse vaccinations and do not have health reasons for it,” Quebec Prime Minister Francois Legault told a news conference.

He added that the government in this French-speaking province is planning for those who will not want to be vaccinated with the first dose vaccines, impose an obligation to pay a special health tax in a “substantial amount”.

Legault added that 10 percent of unvaccinated adults out of more than eight million Quebec residents must not cause “damage” and financial burden to 90 percent of the vaccinated population.

As he explained, they are the ones who burden hospitals, as they make up 50 percent of all patients in intensive care units. He called this situation “shocking.” There are 2742 people with covid in hospitals in Quebec and 255 of them are in the ICU.
