Fuel prices: “40 million motorists” calls for emergency measures from Emmanuel Macron – BFMTV.COM

For motorists, the fuel budget is exploding. In 2021, prices at the pump have risen sharply, and the trend seems to continue at the start of the year. In one year, the price of diesel has increased by 20%, for example.

Over the past two weeks, the average price of a liter of diesel, for example, has increased by 10 cents to almost 1.62 euros, a new all-time high. Same increase for the unleaded 95 E10, which points to 1.68 euros per liter, another record.

Faced with this surge in prices, the association “40 million motorists” sends an open letter to Emmanuel Macron to urge him to act.

In this letter that RMC was able to discover, the association recalls that “on October 21, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced the automatic payment of an ‘inflation allowance’ in the amount of 100 euros to all French people earning less than 2000 euros per month. […] On the fuel side, the liter of diesel then cost on average 1.57 euros at the pump, and that of the liter of SP 95 1.67 euros. Today, Wednesday January 12, 2022, most French people received ‘inflation compensation’ on their last pay slip in 2021 but, above all, they always pay more for their fuel “.

According to Pierre Chasseray, president of the association and author of the open letter, “the government intervention will have extinguished only the media fire fueled by the anger of road users unarmed in the face of soaring prices, without their provide a real solution to face this situation ”.

With this letter, the association wants to challenge the Head of State to ask him to take “urgent and effective” measures to limit increases on fuel.

“Emmanuel Macron is the only one who can act right away. The premium of 100 euros has not changed anything, prices have never been so high. The French continue to be held up at the pump. I ask to Emmanuel Macron that he lower taxes, it is imperative, “he said this Wednesday morning on RMC.

A letter which could also surprise the President of the Republic in its form. Indeed, the association chose to write it in the form of a poem. “It’s an open letter in Alexandrines.
