Groupama-FDJ did not lag behind. More than five months before the big start from Copenhagen, the French team unveiled, Tuesday, January 11, the identity of five of the eight riders who will wear their colors on the Tour de France 2022. Thibaut Pinot will make his comeback after having been absent during the last edition and will be supported by David Gaudu, with whom he shone in 2019 on the slopes of the Tourmalet.

Marc Madiot’s team does not hide its ambitions. “I want to regain my level and win races. I want to become the rider again before my fall on the 2020 Tour. The Tour de France will be the highlight of my season with this common goal: a podium on the Champs Elysées“, declared Thibaut Pinot at a press conference. “The race will decide“if he will be the leader rather than David Gaudu, who reached maturity in 2021 during the difficult season of his elder brother.
To achieve what it has not done since third place in Pinot in 2014, Groupama-FDJ will surround its two headliners with Valentin Madouas, solid rouleur Stefan Küng and Australian rookie Michael Storer, brilliant on the last Vuelta with two stages won. The identity of the three other riders who will start the Grande Boucle will be revealed later. For his part, Arnaud Démare is announced for the Tour of Italy, from May 6 to 29, where he will be expected in the massive sprints, when Attila Valter will express himself in the mountains.
