WADI AD DAWASIR – Slovak motorcycle racer Štefan Svitko took 12th place in the 9th stage of the 44th Dakar Rally on Tuesday. He ranks 8th overall. José Ignacio Cornejo Florimo from Chile enjoyed the victory. Austrian Matthias Walkner took the lead in the overall standings.
Svitko finished in the start and finish stage in Wadi ad Dawasire, which included a 287 km long special stage, with a loss of 6:52 minutes to the winner. Cornejo Florimo managed the track in 2:29:30 h, the second was finished by the Argentine Kevin Benavides with a deficit of 1:26 min and the third was crossed by Ricky Brabec from the USA (+1: 47 min).
Walkner finished right behind him, getting to the top of the overall standings 2:12 minutes ahead of Sam Sunderland. The British failed on Tuesday and finished in 14th place. Svitko has maintained his eighth position, losing 27:52 minutes to the leader.
