Honor has unveiled its very first foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V. The latter wants to stand out with its very thin hinge.
The year 2022 could be the year when foldable smartphones gain traction. Evidenced by the announcement of the new Honor Magic V in China. The device wants to focus on both design and performance. It is also the first time that Honor presents a folding phone.
The Honor Magic V adopts a format similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. It is therefore a smartphone that can take the format of a Tablet when it is unfolded. Count on a 6.45-inch curved external OLED screen offering an elongated 21.3: 9 ratio. The large internal slab, the one that unfolds, offers a diagonal of 7.9 inches in 10: 9 format.
A foldable smartphone that’s on the hinge
A refresh rate of 120 Hz is at the rendezvous on the internal screen of the Honor Magic V for an immersion at the top according to the promises of the brand. We go down to 90 Hz in the folded format. We are also dealing here with “first foldable smartphone to receive IMAX Enhanced certification“. For the plurality of colors, the DCI-P3 space is 100% covered on both screens.
The brand emphasizes the great finesse of the hinge of the Honor Magic V. According to the manufacturer, this greatly reduces the crease in the center of the large screen. The hinge is also supposed to withstand 200,000 folds to last 10 years with 50 folds per day. The thickness of the smartphone, however, remains fairly standard for a folding format: 14.3 mm when folded, 6.7 mm in tablet mode.
In addition, the foldable smartphone was designed from a ‘alloy of high strength titanium, liquid zirconium metals and high strength carbon fibersWhich gives it a very light weight according to the brand. We are waiting to have more information on this specific point.
On the performance side, the Honor Magic V is no fuss and is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm. So there shouldn’t be too much to worry about when it comes to power. Note also that this allows the smartphone to be compatible with the 5G network. The device also benefits from LINK Turbo X technology which intelligently alternates Wi-Fi and mobile connections to boost the speed of downloads.
Quadruple camera and fast charging
Honor also lingers on the photo with a quadruple module at the back including an 8 × 8 dToF (for depth management) and above all three 50 megapixel sensors for the wide-angle, the ultra-wide-angle and a special “Spectrum Enhanced” sensor to help the smartphone better manage the most complex light conditions. On the front, it’s a 42-megapixel sensor that manages selfies and promises great image quality in three modes: night, HDR and zoom.
The Honor Magic V is based on the new Magic UI 6.0 interface. In China, it remains devoid of Google services, but relies heavily on artificial intelligence to anticipate user behavior and make recommendations and reminders as relevant as possible. To strengthen security, the Honor Magic V also has a dedicated chip to ensure proper protection of passwords and biometric data used to unlock the phone.
