The epidemic situation was extremely bad last year. The children did not go to school, they learned online, there was a hard lockdown and many parents made it out of the house. The economy suffered, as did the people. At the beginning of January we had the peak of the second wave and we were able to breathe again after many months until the spring. However, the beginning of January this year was different – the numbers of infected and hospitalized have fallen to a minimum and the delta wave is slowly but surely declining. However, Slovaks, as well as residents of other countries, are haunted by the omicron variant, which is supposed to be more infectious than the delta variant. So far, the available data are only from highly vaccinated countries, and since Slovakia is far from good in vaccination, no one knows what omicron will cause in our country.

However, data analysts looked at the differences between the second and third waves and found interesting facts. For example, we are much better off than in January 2021 – the curfew ends on January 10, children return to schools and the COVID vending machine after the winter holidays, shops and services are also open, but usually, except for those who they sell essential needs, only for the vaccinated and the overcome. In addition, there are differences in the government – since last year, the positions have changed a lot – the head of the government is no longer Igor Matovič, but the former Minister of Finance Eduard Heger, with whom he changed office. Marek Krajčí is no longer the Minister of Health, Vladimír Lengvarský has held this position. The management of the Ministry of Agriculture also changed – after the new one it is led by Samuel Vlčan.

According to them, we should have 100 patients with a severe course in hospitals by the end of January. In addition, they claim that the omicron variant will cause a severe condition in only a few patients out of a hundred, which will be a major relief for hospitalized hospitals and doctors.
