Žilina gambles with the credibility of Slovakia, announces part of MEPs – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA. Some Slovak members of the European Parliament (EP) call on the Attorney General Maroš Žilinkanot to take part in the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office.

MEPs sign Zilinka’s call not to “celebrate undemocratic practices and human rights violations and not to gamble with Slovakia’s credibility” Ivan Štefanec (KDH,), Eugen Jurzyca (SaS), Michal Wiezik (PS), Miriam Lexmann (KDH), Vladimir Bilcik (Together), Martin Hojsík (PS), Michal Šimečka (PS) and Peter Pollák (OĽANO).

“For Slovakia and the European Union, the support of democratic regimes in the world is key. Here we must show the clear position and values ​​that we hold,” stressed Štefanec, who considers Žilink’s planned participation to be a scandal with the other colleagues mentioned.

In this context, the head of the Slovak EPP delegation recalls that the Prosecutor General has accepted the invitation of the Chief of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office, Igor Krasnov, who is on the European Sanctions List, where he arrived after the arrest of Alexei. Navaľného, to which the EP awarded the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.

Žilina plans to take part in the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Prosecutor’s Office in Russia from 11 to 13 January. Representatives of 34 countries and international institutions should be there with him.

However, according to media reports, Žilina is to be the only prosecutor from the V4 countries to take part in the celebrations in Moscow.
