However, the nine-time Australian Open champion did not announce it publicly. “Fourteen days after the positive test, Novak Djokovic did not have fevers or respiratory symptoms of COVID-19. On January 1, he received permission from the immigration authorities to enter Australia,” his lawyers stated.

Lawyers for the 34-year-old tennis player also said that Djokovic had received written permission from the Australian immigration authorities to enter the country on January 1. “It states that he has met the conditions for entry into Australia and does not have to go to quarantine,” stated in the court documents.

Djokovic, who faces up to a three-year ban on entry into Australia if deported, also asked today to move from the detention hotel to another facility where he would be allowed to train. The Australian Open kicks off on January 17.
