Kazakhstan is asking for an alliance led by Russia for riots – Aktuality.sk

On Wednesday, Kazakh President Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev called for help from the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (ODKB). He did so in connection with the protests in the country, which escalated into riots and which he said were led by “terrorists”. According to Tokyo, they seized several planes at the airport in Alma-Ata, TASS and AFP reported.

Destruction and vandalism

“Today, I appealed to ODKB leaders to help Kazakhstan overcome the terrorist threat,” Tokaev said in a television broadcast.

According to Tokyo, terrorist groups “seize infrastructure facilities – specifically, Alma-Ate airports and five aircraft, including several foreign ones.”

At least eight dead

According to the Kazakh Interior Ministry, eight members of the local security forces died during the mass protests, which escalated into riots, while another 317 members were injured, writes the Russian radio station Echo of Moscow. Alma-Ate police also reported more than 500 civilians were injured on Wednesday.

Due to the ongoing unrest in the country on Wednesday declared a state of emergency, which applies throughout Kazakhstan. During its duration, the curfew is valid from 23:00 in the evening until 07:00 in the morning and any public events are prohibited.
