Slovak skier Petra Vlhová was the first in history to claim her third triumph in a row in the Zagreb slalom, and fourth overall this season. However, it was not so much the special award in the form of the winner’s crystal crown that made him more rare, but the fact in what conditions she was able to master the competition.

Unfavorable warm weather has repeatedly affected the slalom in Zagreb, Croatia. Twice they even had to cancel the competition. This seasonal race was reminiscent of the sporting adaptation of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. There was no lack of snow, leaves, wind or unpleasant heat.

All this affected not only the quality of the track, but also the performance of the slopes. The first round was not completed by 18 skiers, including Martina Martina Dubovská, representing the Czech Republic, and in the second round the other eight failed to cross the finish line.

Petra Vlhová also experienced difficulties. “It was not easy. I had mixed feelings while driving, but in the end I was looking forward to the finish line. I could handle better conditions. I tried to deal with it, it was the same for everyone. It was warm, it was very windy, there were leaves everywhere, but I fought to the end and it worked out, ” stated in an interview for the Slovak Skiing Association.

Mikaely Shiffrin’s coach Mike Day built the track in the second round. According to Petra Vlhová, however, this did not weigh on to the detriment of other competitors and it did not provide an advantage to the American. “It simply came to our notice then. We had the biggest fight with the track. The way he built it is one thing, but it broke with each ride. Being the last one was a really big fight. The advantage may be there, but I don’t think anyone had it now. Everyone struggled with the conditions on the piste. “

Although she watched the unfavorable development on the track all the time and waited for the start, knowing that it would go last, she did not feel any stress or nervousness. She is already used to the fact that she closes the race on a not very good surface. “I already have some experience with the last one. I take it as it is. I try to think positively and not negatively that I will go last, the track will be broken, stresses, pressures … I don’t deal with it that way at all.

I’m the best at the moment, I’m going last, I’ll go my ride, I’ll fight to the fullest. That’s how I think. I don’t even think about statistics at all. I concentrate on myself, on my ride, to give my best. When I win, I’m happy about it, but otherwise I don’t solve it at all. “

January is full of races and the upcoming seasonal debut in speed disciplines started in a great mood after the triumph. “I feel very well, whether in slalom or in general. I’m sure and a great team around me. ”
