Presidential 2022: Christiane Taubira, a platform for the foretaste of the program – LCI

Two weeks before saying whether she wants to be a candidate, Christiane Taubira again urges the left to unite. In a column published this Wednesday in The world, the former Minister of Justice believes that “convergences” ideological left “are sufficient to allow us to govern together for five years”. For her, “there is no lack of convergences”, “even with nuances” and “despite a proven propensity to invent insurmountable quarrels between us”.

By listing these convergences – on school, climate or health – the former member of Guyana brushes in this tribune the contours of the program that it could endorse if it were designated to lead the left to the presidential election. A program, moreover, which seems to integrate the proposals of the various candidates already in contention on the left.

She believes that “the climate shock is already the affair of this century and which it calls for drastic choices”, is in favor of better remuneration for health personnel and teachers – a demand made in particular by Anne Hidalgo -, to better support young people in their job search and develop alternative transport to the car.

“We will have to get down to work on renovating the millions of thermally failing homes”, she also writes. “It is also about the increase in the minimum wage and a fair tax policy, which restores the wealth tax, demands from each according to his abilities – let’s mean very clearly: more to those who can contribute more -, and severely punish those who organize to evade taxes “, adds the former minister of François Hollande.

By recalling the role that she wishes to see play on the left, Christiane Taubira also indicates for her what are for her the major challenges to come and the important points that she wishes to defend. Thereby, “it is we who (…) can restore social justice and establish environmental justice, taking responsibility for both. It is we who can put an end to economic predation, promote a solidarist and efficient economy, regulating the digital giants, actively protecting personal data, containing the ordinary violence that parasitizes social networks “, she says.

According to her, the left must still discuss and agree on nuclear power, the relationship with the European Union, certain bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations or “the variation of the rates and fields of application of the VAT”. Which is not nothing.

On the left, only Anne Hidalgo (PS) is also in favor of a primary. Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI), Yannick Jadot (EELV) and Fabien Roussel (PCF) have all, at this stage, refused. Christiane Taubira is expected to say more about her intentions in mid-January. But she has already warned that she refuses to be a candidate “Moreover” to the left.
