Christian Eriksen leaves hospital after “successful operation”

(CNN) – Christian eriksen was discharged from the hospital after undergoing a “successful operation,” according to confirmed this Friday the Danish Football Federation.

Eriksen collapsed during Denmark’s game against Finland on Saturday before receiving resuscitation with CPR and a defibrillator. Hence, it was decided to place the 29-year-old player a implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

According to the British Heart Foundation, an ICD is a small device that is placed under the skin to control the heart rhythm. It is connected to the heart with fine wires and is able to regulate abnormal heart rhythms through electrical shocks.

The Danish federation said Eriksen had visited his teammates on Friday after leaving Copenhagen hospital and that he will now go home to spend time with his family. Denmark lost their second group stage match against Belgium on Thursday with a score of 2-1.

“Thank you for the huge amount of greetings, it was amazing to be able to see and feel it,” said Eriksen.

“The operation went well, and I feel good under the circumstances. It was great to see the boys again after the fantastic game they played last night.

“It goes without saying that I will be cheering them on Monday against Russia.”

The world of football has paid several emotional tributes to Eriksen after his collapse.

Players from Belgium and Denmark stopped Thursday’s game to save a minute of applause in an emotional sign of respect for Eriksen.

This Wednesday, the Finnish and Russian players wore T-shirts with the slogan “Get well, Christian!” as they warmed up for their match, which Russia won 1-0.

Denmark must defeat Russia on Monday and need other results to favor them to advance to the knockout stages of Euro 2020.
