Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro formalized: everything you need to know about these new high-end smartphones – Frandroid

Xiaomi held a conference in China to present two new high-end smartphones, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro. We summarize the main information to remember.

It was the end-of-year conference not to be missed for any self-respecting Xiaomi fan. The Chinese manufacturer has indeed lifted the veil on its two newcomers with great ambitions, which will land in our regions later in 2022: these are the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, which were the subject of numerous leaks in recent months.

Let’s start with the more affordable of the two, the Xiaomi 12. Visually, there is a change from the previous generation. This newcomer is narrower with its 69.9 mm, against 74.6 mm for the Mi 11. Here, Xiaomi wants to improve the grip of its phone, which will normally be more pleasant to hold.

Lighter

The screen size drops drastically: the 6.81 inches of the Xiaomi mi 11 are no longer, facing a diagonal of 6.28 inches for this Xiaomi 12. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S21 opts for a 6.2 inch screen. We are not in the category of compact smartphones, but almost.

The format also has an impact on its weight: 180 grams, compared to the 196 grams of the Xiaomi Mi 11. Overall, we should therefore have a lighter and smaller smartphone. That good for the grip.

Unsurprisingly, the phone screen is entitled to AMOLED, for a Full HD definition of 2400 x 1080 pixels – against 3200 x 1440 pixels last year. But at the same time, this flashback isn’t dramatic, and the screen is smaller anyway. Finally, the refresh rate of 120 Hz is obviously required.

Xiaomi also mentions stereo speakers designed with specialist Harmon Kardon, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision compatibility, as well as Gorilla Glass Victus protection against scratches and drops.

Xiaomi 12: what photo configuration?

On the performance side, no surprise: we already knew that the Xiaomi 12 would marry the latest Qualcomm processor, also called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Let’s continue with the photo configuration of the device, which sports a triple sensor, the characteristics of which are:

• 50 megapixel main sensor (f / 1.88);
• 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (f / 2.4);
• macro sensor (f / 2.4).

It is a shame here to ignore an optical zoom, even x2: it was notably one of the shortcomings observed on the Xiaomi Mi 11. With, this type of phone would really hurt the competitors in its segment. photo tariff. We can still expect better software processing of the images.

Xiaomi focused on a new tool called CyberFocus, which would allow even better management of the camera’s automatic focus. Regardless of the subject’s location and movement, the focus would always manage to locate his face or his body to follow him. Up front, a 32-megapixel selfie camera was preferred.

The battery loses a little bit of energy capacity: 4500 mAh against 4600 mAh, even if this should not really affect the autonomy given the dimensions of the screen, especially if the system is better optimized thanks to MIUI 13 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Xiaomi 12: price

Three types of load have been communicated by the brand: a 67 W wired, a 50 W wireless and a 10 watt reverse load. As you can see, the 120W block tested on the Xiaomi 11t pro is not in the game.

Here are the Chinese prices converted into euros for the Xiaomi 12. Please note, taxes and logistics costs will apply in France, which should inflate the prices:

• Xiaomi 12 (8 + 128 GB): 3,699 yuan, or around 513 euros;
• Xiaomi 12 (8 + 256 GB): 3,999 yuan, or around 554 euros;
• Xiaomi 12 (12 + 256 GB): 4,399 yuan, or around 610 euros.

A bigger Xiaomi 12 Pro

Make way for the big brother, the Xiaomi 12 Pro, whose dimensions, screen diagonal and weight have been revised upwards:

• Screen: AMOLED, 6.73 inch;
• Size: 163.6mm x 74.6mm x 8.16mm;
• Weight: 205 grams.

Here, we are closer to the Xiaomi Mi 11, which is more with its definition of 3200 x 1440 pixels. Several other elements differentiate it from its little brother, starting with the photo. The Pro version strengthens its game with more advanced sensors.

For example, the Xiaomi 12 has the Sony IMX766 sensor on board, against the IMX707 on the Xiaomi 12 Pro, which is wider here. The secondary sensors have on their right side much more megapixels, with a small change in the program:

• 50 megapixel main sensor;
• 50 megapixel portrait sensor;
• 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor (115 degrees, f / 1.9);
• 32 megapixel selfie camera.

For the rest, few notable developments can be reported compared to the classic Xiaomi 12. We find a 4600 mAh battery, an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz, a wireless charge of 50 W, a reverse charge of 10 W … but a much more powerful wired charge of 120 W, which should guarantee recharging sessions. super fast (100% in 18 minutes, we promise).

We can also mention a compatibility Wi-Fi 6, native integration of MIUI 13 and stereo speakers from Harman Kardon.

Xiaomi 12 Pro: prices

The prices of the Xiaomi 12 Pro obviously do not take into account French taxes:

• Xiaomi 12 Pro (8 + 128 GB): 4,699 yuan, or around 651 euros;
• Xiaomi 12 Pro (8 + 256 GB): 4,999 yuan, or around 692 euros;
• Xiaomi 12 Pro (12 + 256 GB): 5,399 yuan, or around 748 euros.

Xiaomi 12X: a little last for the road

And because never two without three, Xiaomi has presented the “X” version of its Xiaomi 12, which is in fact a Lite version and not a compact phone. Here is the list of characteristics communicated about it:

• Screen: 6.28 inch, 120 Hz, AMOLED;
• Processor: Snapdragon 870 5G;
• Battery: 4600 mAh;
• Load: 67 W;
• Main sensor: 50 megapixels;
• Selfie sensor: 32 megapixels;
• Colors: black, blue and mauve.

Clearly, here you are dealing with a phone that is slightly less powerful than its colleagues, but which copies the Xiaomi 12 in terms of its dimensions and screen size. Obviously, the price list suffers and becomes more affordable:

• Xiaomi 12X (8 + 128 GB): 3,199 yuan, or around 443 euros;
• Xiaomi 12X (8 + 256 GB): 3,499 yuan, or about 485 euros;
• Xiaomi 12X (12 + 256 GB): 3,799 yuan, or around 526 euros.
