Xiaomi would prepare a compact smartphone – Frandroid

If you are into compact screens and smartphones that fit easily in the pocket, the market is limited to say the least. Except the very good iPhone 13 mini from Apple and Asus Zenfone 8, compact smartphones that make few concessions on their characteristics are almost non-existent.

However, the market could wake up with the surprise arrival of Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer has rather accustomed us to enlarging the screen of its smartphones for several years, large and efficient formats are very popular in Asia, but the brand is also considering offering a compact smartphone.

A device in the testing phase

This idea comes from the Digital Chat Station leaker on Weibo, taken up by the site ITHome which claims that Xiaomi would work to offer at least one high-end compact smartphone in 2022, with few concessions on its features. The design would already be at the “NPI” stage, that is, at a stage of testing to determine if the concept is viable.

Xiaomi has distinguished itself by the launch of many smartphones in its catalog. The brand now launches new devices every few weeks even if it means creating a saturation effect. In this very large catalog, the brand could leave a little room for a high-end compact smartphone.

So far, while this concept is often requested by commentators, the target audience seems to have remained more confidential than for other ranges. The iPhone 12 mini was indeed illustrated by poor sales relative to other iPhone models launched at the same time. To the point where Apple could bet in 2022 on an iPhone Max instead, on the contrary, with a larger screen than its cousins.
