Covid China, the contagion widens: the city of Yan’an in lockdown

The lockdown widens in northern China, where the wave of Covid cases has reached the highest level in the last 21 months. The authorities ordered hundreds of thousands of people in a district of Yan’an city, which is about 300 km from Xi’an, to stay at home and ordered the closure of businesses. Yan’an thus joins the city of Xi’an, in lockdown for six days with its 13 million inhabitants. In the past 24 hours, the city has registered 209 new cases, the highest daily level since March 2020.
