Standing concerts will be prohibited from January 3 and for 3 weeks. The government has also announced the return of the gauges for large gatherings.

CORONAVIRUS – “To curb the Omicron variant” which fuels the rise of Covid-19 contaminations, the Prime Minister Jean Castex announced this Monday, December 27 the return of the gauges, set at 2,000 people maximum indoors and 5,000 outdoors, as well as the ban on standing concerts as of Monday, January 3, 2022.

These measures, adopted a few minutes earlier in the Council of Ministers, will apply “for a period of three weeks”, including in sports arenas.

The government is also tightening the screw on consumption of food and drink in public places. From next week, it “will be banned in all cinemas, theaters, sports facilities and public transport, including long distance”, said the Prime Minister during a press conference in Matignon.

“The economic sectors impacted by the decisions that the situation requires us to take will be compensated within the framework of consultations which will be conducted without delay by the Minister of the Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire”, added Jean Castex.

The Prime Minister’s intervention took place two days after France crossed for the first time the 100,000 contamination mark in 24 hours. The number of Covid-19 patients continued to increase on Monday, with 16,921 people hospitalized (against 16,365 on Sunday) and 3,333 patients in critical care services, against 3,299 the day before.
