(CNN Spanish) – “This will be the last weekend with masks outdoors, because next June 26 we will no longer wear them in free spaces.”
These were the words chosen this Friday by the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, to make public that face masks or masks will no longer be mandatory in the open spaces of the country from next Saturday, June 26.
As announced by Sánchez, the proposal will be studied next Thursday, June 24, in an extraordinary Council of Ministers. The intention is for the mask measure to take effect after 48 hours.
The proposal comes at a time when more than 22 million people, the equivalent of 47.1% of the Spanish population, have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine, according to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Health.
On the other hand, 13.6 million people, the equivalent of 28.7% of the population, have received the complete vaccination schedule.
