Slovan did not travel to the Spengler Cup at the last minute: the traditional tournament is in danger of being canceled! – Sports

BRATISLAVA – The traditional Spengler Cup hockey tournament (December 26-31) will not take place this year. The organizers canceled it the day before the start after up to 17 positive coronavirus tests appeared in the HC Davos organizing team. Slovan Bratislava was also supposed to start at the event.

Several Swiss media reported on the fate of the event on Saturday morning, and the Watson portal provided information on the number of positive cases in the Davos team. An official confirmation from the organizers is still awaited. The tournament did not take place last year due to the pandemic.

Slovan players were also to start in the Spengler Cup, and the tournament management invited them as substitutes after Ambri-Piotta and the selection of Canada withdrew from the event. However, they did not travel to Davos because the organizers, who provide transport to all participants, canceled their flight on Saturday night.

“I can confirm that the organizers canceled our plane. To enter Switzerland required negative PCR tests of all members of the team. We tested the players and the implementation team after the match with Michalovce. They all had negative results. We are waiting for the official decision of the organizers. 11.00 h, ” said Slovan marketing director Milan Vajda.
