Twenty enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner in Canada: Chefs bothered with our Christmas menu – Športky.sk

RED DEER – Slovak hockey players under the age of 20 had a rich feast on Christmas Eve and tuned in well before the start of the World Championships in Red Deer and Edmonton. Honey and garlic wafers, solid cabbage and potato salad with Canadian-style mayonnaise were also present at the holiday table. After dinner, the hockey players handed out presents and together they watched the film classic “I enjoy the world with you”.

The representatives met at the eighteenth evening of local time, after the introductory words of manager Tomáš Pšenka, followed by a prayer and a short toast, which was given by non-alcoholic champagne to head coach Ivan Feneš. After him, the culinary part of Christmas Eve started. The Slovaks asked the hotel kitchen staff to prepare a traditional Slovak Christmas menu. Its base was to be cabbage and fried fish, respectively a steak with mayonnaise potato salad.

“This is the first time I’ve spent Christmas with guys in Canada. It was something new, but I’m really enjoying it. We’re a good team and especially thanks to them, Christmas in Canada was a refreshing experience.” said striker Ján Lašák for hockeyslovakia.sk, who is waiting for his premiere at the junior championship. “Canadians tried to make a classic Slovak Christmas dinner and I don’t think it turned out completely badly. We got a steak with fish and potato salad. There was also an attempt at cabbage. Honestly, I didn’t even try it because I’m not a big fan of cabbage. But guys they said it wasn’t bad, so it turned out pretty well, ” added Lašák, who was most pleased with the honey wafer: “That’s my specialty. I like sweets, so I enjoyed this.”

After dinner, everyone received gift packages. “We got great headphones as well as vitamins, which is great, because the current time is bad and we all want to be healthy so that we can play the tournament. Everything we got will come in handy. Equally usable bag with the logo of Slovak hockey or whether for hygiene or in the hockey booth, ” said defender Marko Stacha.

He enjoyed Christmas Eve away from home with his team of 20 for the third time. It premiered two years ago at the junior championship in Třinec, the second time last year in Edmonton, Canada. “Canadians are not very used to preparing our meals. The cabbage, which was not made as soup but as part of a main course, confirmed it. On the other hand, I have to say that this time they exceeded my expectations and it was really good.” added for hocekyslovakia.sk.
