EDMONTON – The coaching staff of the Slovak under-20 hockey team announced on Friday the final nomination for the Junior World Championships in Canada. The trio of Oliver Fatul, Simon Groch and Oliver Stümpel did not fit on the 25-name final list. The website hockeyslovakia.sk informed about it.

The first two nominees have already left the Red Deere national team camp and will fly from Edmonton via Toronto to Vienna on Christmas Day. Oliver Stümpel will leave the team on December 25 and return to the Corpus Christi IceRays club in NAHL.

“We had to make an awkward decision. We had a long discussion and we finally decided that Oliver Fatul, Simon Groch and Oliver Stümpel would leave the team.” coach Ivan Feneš said and on the margin of reasons they decided against the mentioned trio, he added: “FromI say that this was a difficult and extremely long decision. There are 25 hockey players on the final list of Slovakia for the junior championship, of which three are goalkeepers. “We managed to put together an amazing team with a clear identity. We have experience, predation, youth, great quality and players who are willing to throw shots and handle tough fights. The Slovak “twenties” will play the first match at the junior championship on Monday, December 27 at 3.30 CET in Red Deere against the USA, in the B-group they will also meet Sweden, Russia and Switzerland.
