Tunisia: former president Moncef Marzouki sentenced to 4 years in prison

Former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki was sentenced to four years in prison on Wednesday (December 22) for “undermining the external security of the state”, the national news agency TAP said. The former leader called on France last October to stop supporting the current administration.

Moncef Marzouki, who lives in Paris, had criticized President Kaïs Saïed, saying he had organized a coup.

Kaïs Saïed suspended parliament and ousted the government in July, before later appointing a government and announcing a plan for a referendum and elections next year.
