According to the overseas media, the profilig management has already agreed with the NHLPA, an official announcement is awaited. The reason is a coronavirus pandemic, proliferating positive cases and postponed matches in the NHL.

“There have been signs lately, and such a result was expected. It’s to the detriment of the Olympics. The Olympics should have the best players. I remember it as a player. The general manager of the national team knows that without NHL players, every team will lose quality: “The strongest hockey countries are losing more than we will. The Olympic tournament will match qualitatively. We will try to be a positive surprise.”

The details of the agreement between the NHL and the NHLPA should be known in the coming hours. However, the leadership of the Slovak team could think of AHL players towards the Olympic Games. “We do not know the specifics of the agreement yet. If possible and the restrictions do not apply to AHL players, we will certainly try to provide an exemption for our players who operate in the AHL and are interested in going to the Olympics,” Satan explained.

NHL players will be missing for the second time in a row. In 2018, they also did not appear under the five circles in Pyongyang. Although the NHL and the NHLPA and the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) originally agreed to participate in the 2022 and 2026 Olympics, the NHL leadership had to postpone 50 matches for the coronavirus this season, and out of fear of the spreading omikron variant, they now agreed that the most prestigious hockey tournament will be without overseas profilers.
