NEW YORK – Beijing’s Olympic hockey tournament will be without NHL players next year. The management of the overseas profilig decided not to allow its players to start under the five Olympic rings due to the rapidly spreading variant of the coronavirus omicron. According to ESPN, the league management has already agreed with the NHLPA player and the official announcement is due in the next 24 hours.
The world’s elite overseas players will be missing for the second time in a row. They also graduated in 2018 in Pyongyang. Although the NHL originally agreed with the NHLPA and the International Hockey Federation IIHF on the participation of players in the Olympics 2022 and 2026, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the opinion has now changed. The NHL leadership has already had to postpone 50 games this season for the coronavirus.
