Covid today South Korea, record of ‘serious’ cases

South Korea reports 7,456 new coronavirus infections and a worrying record of patients in “serious” conditions, 1,063, according to data from the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention (Kdca) reported by the Yonhap agency. At 5 pm yesterday the percentage of beds occupied in intensive care for Covid patients was 79.2% (the figure was 80.7% the previous day) and this morning Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum announced that the government is working so that by mid-January there are another 10,000 beds for Covid-19 patients. “The government will monitor the situation – he said – and, if necessary, will develop measures in advance to manage 15,000 patients a day.” Since the beginning of the pandemic, South Korea has confirmed 583,065 infections with 4,906 deaths, 78 of which in the last 24 hours. To date, the country has reported 234 cases of the Omicron variant. According to data from the Kdca, 82.1% of the population completed the primary vaccination course and 25.5% received the ‘booster’ dose of an anti-Covid vaccine.
