The announcement came shortly after the fourth dose of the vaccine was recommended by a board of experts due to the spread of the new coronavirus variant omicron. The Prime Minister called this recommendation the Board of Experts “amazing news to help us get through the omicron wave”.

The number of omicron cases has doubled

In Israel, the number of omicron infections doubled only on Tuesday. The Israeli Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 170 new omicron infections had been added to the country, bringing the total to 340, according to the news portal The Times of Israel.

At the same time, the AP agency reported on Tuesday that they probably recorded the first deaths associated with the omicron variant in Israel. It was a 60-year-old man who died on Monday – two weeks after being hospitalized with a covid. However, the man also had several associated diseases, and the main cause of his death was not a coronavirus respiratory infection.

According to Bennett, they will start administering the fourth dose of the vaccine in Israel in the coming days, the AP agency writes. Bennett announced that he had ordered the Ministry of Health to start preparing for the benefit. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, in addition to people over the age of 60 and health care workers, the fourth dose will also allow people with weakened immunizations to be vaccinated.
